  1. "Marian"

    Consists of a videocassette and DVD, each containing a documentary entitled "Marian." The documentary, 46 minutes long, juxtaposes an exhibition of Marian Kołodziej's post-war artwork with an oral history interview about his experiences. Mr. Kołodziej was a Catholic prisoner in Auschwitz from 1940-1944, and was liberated from Ebensee. By depicting their faces, his artwork focuses on the demoralization of the victims and prisoners in the camps.

  3. Roman Kawalek collection

    Consists of correspondence, forms, newspaper clippings, certificates, and report cards related to the experiences of Dr. Roman Kawalek. Originally of Zborów, Poland, Dr. Kawalek received his medical degree from the University of Vienna in 1938. He emigrated to the United States in 1940 after a brief period in England and joined the United States Army. He participated in the liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp. Contains papers regarding Dr. Kawalek's education, including his framed medical school diploma, and his immigration experiences and in the Army.

  6. "When there is life, there is hope" : Marcel Chagnac memoir

    Consists of one memoir, 24 pages, in French, entitled "When there is life, there is hope," by Marcel Chagnac, originally of Nancy, France. Mr. Chagnac was arrested in an attempt to escape to Switzerland in 1942 and was sent to Drancy. He was deported to Auschwitz in February 1943 and was quickly sent to the Goleszów (Poland) labor camp. He was forced to participate in a death march to Oranienburg and Ravensbrück, where he was liberated on May 1, 1945. Includes an English translation as well as a CD-ROM containing illustrations and photographs.

  7. Serge Ejnès papers

    The papers document the experiences of Serge Ejnès in Reims, France, during the Holocaust. Included are photographs of United States Army troops in Reims after liberation, an identification card issued to Ejnès after liberation, and a letter written in 1943 to Ejnès from his brother in Lyon, France.

  8. Dachau liberation photographs

    Consists of two photographs taken after the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp. Includes one photograph of a large group of prisoners with flags in front of a building and one photograph of a cart of corpses being taken through a German village on the way to burial.

    The papers consist of twelve photographs depicting Leah and Phillip Zaks Zakuska and their son, Michael in a DP camp in Florence, Italy, after World War II; seven photographs of unknown persons with Yiddish inscriptions on the verso; and one letter written to Ann Fonaroff of the United Service for New Americans, Enc. on November 2, 1948, on behalf of Philip, "Lisa", and "Moses" Zaks and concerning their immigration to the United States.   12. Signet ring with an engraving of the Łódź ghetto bridge owned by a ghetto resident

    Ring with his initials given to Jerzyk Wajnberg for his 18th birthday in the Łódź ghetto. It is engraved with an image of one of the two bridges that joined the three sections of the ghetto. The sections were created by the fenced intersection of two major roads that crossed through the ghetto. The bridges were needed for the inhabitants to travel between sections, as they were not permitted on the roads.     Consists of a photocopies from "Byli Z Ojczyzny Mojej," ("From my Fatherland") by Miroslaw Krajewski, relating the experiences of Jakub Stencel's imprisonment and death; also contains one typed transcription of a February 1991 oral history interview with Eliakim Stencel in which he describes his experiences and the history of Rypin, Poland during the Holocaust. The interview was conducted by Louisa Weinrib.

  17. Georg Unger letter

    The Georg Unger letter, dated 12 November 1938, was sent from Georg Unger in Berlin, Germany to Henry Unger in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In the letter, Georg explains that he and Henry Unger could be distantly related, but regardless, he needs an affidavit of support in order to emigrate from Germany, as he is no longer allowed to work under Nazi restrictions. Also included is the envelope in which the letter was mailed.
