  4. Rivka Lozansky-Bogomolnaya collection

    The collection consists of documents, photographs, and photograph albums relating to the life of people in the shtetl Butrimantz (Butrimonys), Lithuania, before 1941. It also contains a manuscript written by Riva Lozansky that describe the destruction of Butrimantz; the book, "If I Forget Thee..the destruction of the shtetl Butrimantaz," is based upon the manuscript.

    The collection includes Dr. Eduard Bloch's autobiography titled “Warum ich Europea verlassen, und was ich in Amerika erreicht habe,” written between 1941 and 1945. In his autobiography, Eduard provides a history of his family and details his life in Austria and his family’s immigration to the United States as well as and his career as a physician, including his professional acquaintance with the Hitler family. The collection also includes a translation of the autobiography titled “Why I left Europe and what I have achieved in America.”

    Bremerhaven, Germany at the port of embarkation. US military personnel mill about, arranging signs, helping DPs with luggage, guiding the refugees through this stage of the emigration process. They are on their way to the United States, a large painted banner on the docks reads: "Welcome to the first DP Emigrants to the US, Bremerhaven Port of Embarkation" Refugees board the ship (the General Wm.   13. M19 two-sided silk escape map of Western Europe

    British made, double sided, color topographical silk escape map, Sheet 43C and D, showing areas of the Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Germany, with an ancillary map of the new frontier, Belgium and Germany. The maps were produced by Branch M19, which was created in December 1939 to facilitate escape and evasion strategies for soldiers and prisoners-of-war by helping them find their way to safety from behind enemy lines.     Contains one two-page newsletter, published September 2, 1938, for Yedioth Hayom in Tel Aviv, with an anonymous report about the conditions in the Buchenwald concentration camp. The information in the article was gleaned from a former prisoner of the camp and gives the location, makeup, and atmosphere of the camp.

The map serves as a transition from this region of southern Poland to the northwestern region of Poland and the port city of Gdynia.
