  2. Galina Guterman collection

    Consists of two photographs of the Guterman family in Pińsk, dated 1915 and 1930. Those photographed perished in the Holocaust. Also includes one memoir of David Feldman, originally of Warsaw, Poland. Mr. Feldman, a cousin of Galina Guterman [donor], was arrested in Białystok for not carrying identification papers. He spent several years imprisoned in Siberia before joining the Polish Army upon his release. He served in the Middle East and remained in Israel after the war.

  3. Berger family letter

    Consists of one letter, dated 23 July 1942, from Niederzissen, Germany to "Siegmund and loved ones" from their parents. In the letter, the Bergers ask their children to help their family and friends that may return in the future and write that they hope to see each other again someday. The letter was written by the donor's aunt, Tillie Berger, who was writing to her son, Siegmund, who had immigrated to the United States.

  4. Cardinal Innitzer of Vienna, speech and procession

    Crowds line the streets of Vienna. A procession moves down the street; a band plays. Church bells peal as nuns and Catholic clerics move down the street. Cardinal Theodor Innitzer, surrounded by other clergy, waves and blesses the crowd. The scene changes to show Innitzer giving a speech in which he says (in part) that religion and love of the fatherland belong together. Cardinal Theodor Innitzer was the primate of Austria. In 1938 he publicly endorsed the Anschluss and met with Hitler, but he later repudiated the Nazis.

  5. Bernstein family letter

    Consists of one letter, dated March 23, 1942 from Leopold Neuman in Montbrison, France to Mrs. S. G. Normand of Kansas City, MO. In the letter, Mr. Neuman tells Mrs. Normand that he has spoken to her brother, who had the surname of Bernstein and was in Paris with his family, and urges her to continue to try to get American visas to bring the family to the United States. Also includes copies of two articles written by Roland Leiser about the letter.

  6. Max Birnbach collection

    Consists of correspondence, postcards, and forms related to the efforts of Maximillian Birnbach to emigrate from Switzerland during the war and his efforts to assist family and friends in Vienna to do the same. Also includes post-war correspondence regarding attempts to find missing loved ones. The majority of the correspondence dates from 1938-1942 and from 1946-1948.

    The collection consists of three photographs of Marta Rein and Wanda Rein Folman with friends.

  8. Soap from Bergen-Belsen concentration camp

    Bar of soap issued to 15-year-old Erwin Dankner in June 1944 in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany. The soap was never used. Erwin, his parents, Henry and Catherina, and his brother, Anthony, arrived in Bergen-Belsen by train from Budapest, Hungary, as part of a rescue effort organized by Rezso Kasztner. Later in 1944, the family was transferred to safety in Switzerland.

  10. Andre Limot OSE home collection

    Consists of 38 photographs (many with the accompanying negatives) taken at various OSE homes in France during and after the Holocaust, including photographs of Andre Limot [donor]. Includes a book of photographs of OSE homes entitled, "OSE France; Homes d'enfants, 1946." Also includes photographs and negatives of Moroccan Jews. Photographs have been identified by the donor.

  11. "The Yellow Armband"

    Consists of one memoir, 39 pages, titled "The Yellow Armband," by Zalmen Feuerwerker (now Sol Feuer), originally of Sighet, Romania. Mr. Feuer describes his experiences in a labor battalion, his time in the Buchenwald concentration camp, his experiences repairing railway tracks as part of a labor battalion which survived frequent Allied bombings, and his liberation from the Dachau concentration camp. Mr. Feuer concentrates on the story of his four closest friends, Zoli (a soccer player), Rozi (a religious scholar), Mendl (a holy man), and Doc (Dr. Friedman). Only Mr. Feuer (Freiu) and Rozi ...

    Includes records concerning Jewish matters and the policy of local offices toward Jewish questions.     Contains 3,480 personal files. Documents are organized in alphabetical order by surname. Each file contains a photograph and application for identity card including number of the identity card, name, date and place of birth, parents’ names, occupation, address, and date of issuance. Some files include correspondence.
