    Contains financial and administrative documents from the Kreishauptamt Zamość, Finanzkasse relating to confiscated food and fines leveled against Jews in the Zamość area; guidelines for regulation of non-German labor; reports on evacuation and relocation of Poles and Ukrainians; lists of families and camp inmates released for labor from the Arbeitsamt Zamość; and provisions for police and prisoners from the Amt für Ernährung und Landwirtschaft.

  4. A collection of stories about the Holocaust

    Testimony, typescript (presumably unpublished), of interviews conducted by Silberman, primarily in Riga in the mid-1960s with Holocaust survivors living there at that time. A manuscript compilation of some of these from 1988 is included.

  13. Harry Fogel collection

    Consists of a photocopy of a diary, in Polish, written by Harry Fogel between 1939-1944. In the diary, he describes his life in the Łódź (Litzmannstadt) ghetto, including the experience of purchasing food, the morale of those in the ghetto, and attempts at resistance. Also includes a photocopy of a speech, in English, which Harry Fogel gave at the Łódź ghetto commemorative ceremony in Montreal, Canada, on October 10,1994.

  15. Betty Cohen papers

    The Betty Cohen papers document the Dutch families who concealed her during the Holocaust. Records include a personal narrative Betty wrote for Yad Vashem describing her rescuers, Tieme and Alie Beuving and Johannes (Joep) and Agnes Garben; photographs of herself, her parents, her brothers and sister, her husband, and the Garbens; and a poem she composed describing her hiding space on the Garbens’ farm in Azewijn, Gelderland.

  16. Abram Kashtan collection

    The Abram Kashtan collection contains various documents relating to Abram Kashtan, a Holocaust survivor who hid in a barn for a year before joining with anti-Nazi partisans. Included in the collection are his diary filled with partisan and camp songs, health documents such as an immunization record and health certificate, and identification documents such as identification cards and a certificate of service.   17. Beatrice Maier papers

    The Beatrice Maier papers contains correspondence and a deposition. The correspondence consists of two letters, written by "Gerda," May and June 1939. The first letter, addressed to "Else," was written aboard the MS St. Louis; the second was written after arrival in Mirebeau, France. The letters describe experiences aboard the ship, their arrival in Havana and Florida. The deposition was prepared by Hugo Zivi of New York, addressed to the Badische Staatsanwaltschaft in April 1947, in which he describes events he witnessed during Kristallnacht in Mühlheim, Germany, and identifying by name th...

    The collection consists of photocopies of documents and articles related to Isidoro Berger Safiano, a wealthy businessman in Bucharest, Romania, who intervened to help save the lives of 16 teenage members of Hasomer Hatzair who were sentenced to lengthy prison sentences during World War II. Included are copies of Romanian documents regarding Isidoro’s efforts to help the teenagers, articles, and post-war letters regarding his actions.
