  2. Anne Frank diary mono-opera musical score and related documents

    Bound volume of musical score for an opera based on the "Diary of a Young Girl" by Anne Frank. Title (Russian) is "Dnevnik Anni Frank, monopera, v 4 stsenax, 21 epizody," with libretto and music by Grigori Frid. Parshitura, 1969. Inscribed with Frid's (Fried) address in Moscow. Second folder contains concert programs from performances in Kislovodsk and Pyatigorsk in 1976-77; Rotterdam, 1979; Stockholm, 1997; Syracuse, NY, 1978; with English summary of opera.

  4. Toni Heller collection

    The Toni Heller collection contains documents relating to Harry and Toni Heller, who both were imprisoned in Westerbork transit camp from 1940-1945. Items include travel and work passes from Westerbork, certificates of good conduct, and a newsletter from the refugee camp. Other items include an interview with Commander Gemmecke of Westerbork, a testimony on life in the camp, and a brief biography and testimony written by Toni Heller. The collection also contains photographs of the Hellers and postcards.

    Booklets: One, "Preliminary List of Persons Accused or Suspected of Crimes Against Humanity," issued by Nehemiah Robinson and the World Jewish Congress in 1961. Other item, titled "KZ Sachsenhausen," is a 156-page booklet compiled by Zentralstelle of Nordrhein-Westfalen in 1961, containing a list with photographs of individuals identified as having worked on prison staff at Sachsenhausen, to help in investigation and capture of remaining war criminals from there, circa 1962.

    Testimony, 19 pages, typescript, titled "My Nightmare in Hell," by Harold Spear (Hercko Szpiro). Describes childhood in Poland, invasion by Germans, labor camp in Lublin, Łódź ghetto, Auschwitz, and death marches.

  8. Pages from a notebook and return from the gate of death relating to conditions at Melk

    Testimony. Two photocopied documents. First is photocopy of a manuscript, 4 pages; the other is one typescript page (photocopy), both have accompanying note, presumably from donor, explaining that contents of both are from former prisoners at camp in Melk, Austria. Describes beating and mistreatment of prisoner at Melk, the other describes transfer of prisoner from Melk to Mauthausen.

    Testimony, handwritten, eight pages, Russian, by Fanya Vaisman (Weisman), of Chicago, in June 1994. Originally from a village (Shpikov) in Vinnitsa district, Ukraine, Vaisman describes experiences in Pechora camp and Shargorod ghetto, as well as hiding in forest after escape.

    The Ilse Rothschild papers consists of Rothschild’s postwar Belgian identification card, a 1940 letter from her brother, Ludwig Cohn, describing his railroad ordeal from Belgium to Saint Cyprien as an interned enemy alien, his 1942 Red Cross letter indicating that Les Milles was being liquidated, four photographs of Cohn at the Les Milles internment camp, and four photographs of Rothschild’s husband, Erich Rothschild, working with oxen and potatoes at the Gordola labor camp in 1942.   16. Chernivtsi Jewish Survivors Organization affidavits

    The collection consists of 901 affidavits, solicited by the Chernivtsi (Ukraine) Jewish Survivors Organization. The organization collected the affidavits in order to press the Soviet government for stipendiary pensions in restitution for the atrocities the survivors suffered during World War II. After the fall of the Soviet Union, the organization continued to receive the affidavits. Presumably, the survivors hoped that a successor government would honor the request.     Consists of a baptismal certificate for Sophia Balitzer, originally issued in 1935 and reissued in 1947; a marriage certificate, dated 1936 at the parish of Sw. Magdaleny in Grodno; a 1945 identity card with photograph issued to Regina Balitzer, originally of Radom; and a postcard sent from Z. Baltizer in the Tarnow ghetto to his sister, M. Adout, in Lausanne, Switzerland, dated 1942. The baptismal and marriage certificate were forged in attempts to aid the Balitzer family of Radom to survive the Holocaust.
