  2. Sidney Etkin collection

    The Sidney Etkin collection contains documents obtained by Etkin during his time treating prisoners from the recently liberated Mauthausen-Gusen camp in June, 1945. The documents contain statements made by Franz Zeireis, the commandant of the camp. He details the camp conditions, specific torture done to prisoners, numbers of prisoners killed, and other facts regarding the management of the concentration camp. Also included are photographs of the prisoners and camp, taken by Etkin, as well as a newspaper clipping summarizing the role Zeireis played in the management of Mauthausen.

  14. Musia Gershenman testimony

    Contains a photocopy of handwritten testimony in Yiddish by Musia Gershenman, who, along with several other Jews from the Kovno (Kaunas, Lithuania) ghetto, was rescued by Antonina and Jonas Paulavicius. Included with the testimony is an English translation provided by the USHMM. The collection also includes a videocassette of the ceremony at Yad Vashem recognizing Antonina Paulavicius as a "Righteous Among the Nations."

  15. "Krankengymnastin in Auschwitz"

    Consists of a typed memoir, in German, by Simha Naor (born Stella Silberstein, 1899-1994), originally of Vienna, Austria. The memoir, 238 pages, is based on Ms. Naor's journal, which she wrote shortly after her liberation from Bergen-Belsen, and which included information about her work in the hospital in Auschwitz. The memoir based on this draft was published in 1986 as "Krankengymnastin in Auschwitz: Aufzeichnungen des Haftlings, Ausgabe 80574."

    Consists of a draft of an English language translation of "La Banalita del Bene: The Story of Giorgio Perlasca," originally of Enrico Deaglio and translated by Gregory Conti. The draft, consiting of 129 pages and including a transcript of part of Perlasca's diary, was later published as "The Banality of Goodness" (South Bend : University of Notre Dame Press, 1998).
