  11. Joanna Bruzdowicz collection, 1989-1997

    Contains a copy of Joanna Bruzdowicz's score, "The song of hope and love," for cello and piano, with the composer's dedication to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum handwritten on the inside cover as well as copies of two pamphlets and of several newspaper articles concerning her career as a pianist and composer. The world performance of "The song of hope and love" took place at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum on June 22, 1997.

  12. Michael V. Roth photographs

    The Michael V. Roth photograph collection consists of photographs of relating to the Holocaust experiences of Michael (Miklos) Roth of Ricse, Hungary. The pre-war photographs include photographs of children in Ricse, Hungary, Michael Roth as a child, and members of the Roth family. The post-war photographs include the exterior of the Kloster Indersdorf children’s home and a group of children at the Föhrenwald displaced persons camp. There are also photographs of a group of people in New York City in 1955.

  13. Shifra Altshuler letter

    Photocopy of a typescript version of a memoir written in the form of a letter dated October 12, 1942, from Shifra nee Altshuler (married name unknown) to her sister, Rochelle, and two brothers, Barryl and Aryeh, describing in detail the sufferings of the Jewish Community of Ivyeh, Poland, at the hands of both the Poles and the Nazis. The memoir covers the period of October 12 to December 23, 1942.

  14. Jan Willem Slotboom letter

    Contains a photocopy of an eight page 1945 letter written by Jan Willem Slotboom, in which he describes his internment in "Heinkel Werken," a "commando" of the main camp Sachsenhausen where he met Wieb Dop. Slotboom describes camp life and friendship with Wieb, but does not know what happened to him.

    Contains the transcript of an interview with Stella Rippel, conducted by Herbert Katzki for the Joint Distribution Commiittee Oral History Project in 1988. Stella Rippel was a Holocaust survivor from Warsaw who worked in the JDC’s Warsaw office in 1949, where she assisted survivors in locating relatives and worked in the Children’s Department.

    Contains receipts, orders, identification cards, travel permits, postcards, certificates, photographs, and other documents relating to the persecution, deportation, imprisonment, and hiding experiences of the Elbert family during the Holocaust. Includes photographs of Hugo and Alice Elbert, of Jewish members of the Slovakian Army, and of the Novaky labor camp.

  19. "19 Wasted Months: diary and notes of my internment"

    Contains a copy of a booklet entitled "19 Wasted Months: diary and notes of my internment" by Kurt Lewinski. The booklet, which is a typed English translation of the original German, describes Lewinski's experiences in an internment camp for enemy aliens in England; life on the HMT Dunera ship, which transported him to Australia in 1940; and life in the Hay, New South Wales and in the Tatura internment camps. The text is written in the form of daily diary entries, and includes two epilogues written in 1942 and 1945 which reveal that Mr. Lewinski joined the Australian military.

  20. Frida Rabenstein memoir

    Contains a handwritten memoir, two pages, describing the author's deportation in June 1944 to "Lager C" in Auschwitz concentration camp; her transfer to an ammunition factory in Hunsfeld labor camp; the death march to Gross Rosen concentration camp in January 1945; her transfer to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp where she was liberated by British troops on April 15, 1945; and her postwar life in Sweden and the United States.
