  1. Literary archives of Mikhail Yakovlevich Pinchevskiy

    Contains poetry, tales, and theatrical plays. Some of the poetry originally was written in Yiddish and translated into Russian. Most of the poetry is dedicated to the Jewish life in Bessarabia (now part of Moldova) and Ukraine (see poems: Bessarabia, Doyna and Zhok, poetry: Broha, Sidur, etc.) and to the heroism of Jewish soldiers during World War II.

  2. Prayer book

    The prayer-book has a brown cover with gold leaf detailing and contains daily and weekly prayers. There is a handwritten inscription in Hungarian on the inside front cover that states: "I have received this prayer-book on June 3, 1945, in Theresienstadt. Most likely one of my wretched, tortured, murdered relatives had used it to worship the Almighty, but He got disgusted with His people living the European civilization and pronounced His "judgment," ("curse") upon them which, however, was still not harsh enough. / O my Lord, Creator of the world, open the eyes of the blind so they could see...

  3. "The Fight for Survival"; Zelik Asher Karpman memoir

    One memoir, 129 pages, which relates the life of Zelik Asher Karpman, born in Biajkow, Poland. He and his family were sent to the Bialobjeg ghetto in 1941. By the summer of 1941, Zelik was the only member of his immediate family who had not been either killed or deported to a work camp. He managed to escape his forced labor within the ghetto and survived the war in various hiding places in Poland. The memoir is written in the format of an oral history.

  4. Documentary Appendix to U.S. and Allied Efforts to Recover and Restore Gold and Other Assets Stolen or Hidden by Germany During World War II

    Consists of photocopies of documents and memorandum used in the preparation of the 1997/1998 report entitled "U.S. and Allied Efforts to Recover and Restore Gold and Other Assets Stolen or Hidden by Germany During World War II" (also known as the Eizenstat report), which was prepared by the Interagency Group on Nazi Assets. Documents were culled from the archives of the agencies which participated in the preparation of the report (US Department of State, etc.). Also includes 23 CIA documents used in the report.

    Contains records related to Protestant theologians in the German state of Württemberg during the Nazi era. Includes materials published after World War II.

  7. Speculum owned by a German emigre and US Army medic

    Speculum used by Dr. Bruno Lambert, who immigrated to the United States from Nazi Germany in 1938, and served in the United States Army Medical Corps during the war. Bruno attended medical school in Germany from 1932-1937, but was not allowed to receive a diploma as a Jew under the Nazi regime. He transferred to a university in Switzerland, and earned a Doctorate of Medicine in July 1938. With the help of Margaret Bergmann, Bruno immigrated to the US in August. Margaret was a Jewish athlete who was banned from competing in the Olympics by the Nazi authorities, and subsequently immigrated to...

  8. Daily life in Russia, children at play

    Russian children playing along a river that is frozen over. They are play fighting with each other and skating around on the frozen water. One boy has dug a hole through the ice and is searching for something in the water, the other boys gather round. Play sequence continues until 01:12:47:00 where the subject shifts to scenes of the rural countryside, the camera pans landscape: establishing shots, subject returns to children on the river playing and pretending to be sword fighters.

  10. David Sandlerowicz collection

    Collection consists of five photographs of groups of young adults, described by David Sandlerowicz as taken in Cyprus 1947, and two identification cards. One card is issued by the Jewish Agency for Palestine to "Mendel Wachs" and the identity of the owner of the other card is unknown.

  11. Hans Garfunkel collection

    Consists of letters written to Bessie Silberman, in Chicago, IL, from Hans Garfunkel, as Hans was trying to obtain the visas and affidavits necessary to emigrate to the United States (in English and French); letters written to Hans Garfunkel from his parents in Germany (in German); report cards and other academic paperwork for Hans Garfunkel; and telegrams and consular correspondence regarding Hans Garfunkel's visa requests. Also consists of 12 pre-war and wartime photographs of the family and friends of Hans Garfunkel.

    The death certificate was issued for Siegfried Israel Drucker donor's father upon his death in the Theresienstadt (Terezín) concentration camp. The certificate states that he died on March 26, 1943.

  14. "My Survival" memoir

    Memoir, 7 pages, relates the story of Traute Hirschmann, born in Breslau, Germany, in 1927. She was sent to various labor camps from 1942-1945 and survived along with both her parents, though they were separated during the war years. She emigrated to the United States in 1948.
