    The Ruth Wertheim papers consists of three letters written by Ruth Wertheim following her liberation from the labor camp Marzdorf/Riesengebirge, and addressed to friends and relatives in Detroit, Michigan, 1945-1946. Also included is a newspaper clipping listing the "Nuremberg Laws," 1935.

    Winston Churchill and other men aboard a naval vessel. The men wear life vests. Churchill descends into the hatch at one point. He is shown getting off the ship and being received by crowds of soldiers at the port. 01:44:46 A man demonstrates how clandestine footage was filmed in occupied Paris. This appears to be a reenactment. He places a movie camera into a bicycle basket and covers it with wine bottles. The camera's lens pokes through a slat in the basket. The man rides his bike down the street.

  7. Abraham-Avrum Sperber papers

    The papers consist of a manuscript and photographs relating to the experiences of Abraham-Avrum Sperber and his family before, during, and after World War II. The hand-written manuscript was purportedly transcribed after World War II in a composition notebook from original notes kept by Abraham-Avrum Sperber while living under Nazi-occupation in Kolomyi︠a︡, Poland (now Ukraine). He describes events that occured between March 3, 1941, and July 7, 1942. The photographs depict the pre- and post-World War II life of Sperber and his family in Ukraine, Romania, and Israel.

    The autograph album belonged to Eva Goldberg Judd and contains autographs, signatures, photographs, and drawings. Inscriptions from friends and family include Anne Frank and Susanne "Sanne" Ledermann. The contents of the autograph book were collected by Eva Goldberg prior to her emigration from Germany to the United States via the Netherlands and Great Britain. According to the Anne Frank House, Otto Frank wrote the caption "July 1936" underneath the photo of Anne Frank, Eva Goldberg, and Susanne Ledermann.   13. Helene Mayer fencing for Germany at Olympic games

    Half-Jewish athlete Helene Mayer fencing for Germany. Mayer was the only Jewish athlete who represented Germany, and she was allowed to do so only under the pressure of international opinion. She won a silver medal in the individual foil event and gave the Nazi salute from the podium. After the Olympics she returned to the United States, where she had been living. Schacherer-Elek, who won gold, and Preiss, who won bronze, were also part Jewish. Mayer is the tall blond fencer.

  15. Lithuanian children photograph

    Contains one photograph of two young boys, aged approximately nine and four years old. The photograph, taken in Kaunas, Lithuania, was given to the parents of the Shulamith Shafer [donor], Paul and Riva Singal Huz, by the uncle of the boys in the Santa Maria displaced persons camp. The uncle, remembered only as "Leibel," gave the photograph to the Huzes hoping that they could locate the boys in the United States.

  16. Pál Szegö diary

    This collection consists of a diary written by Pál Szegö, originally of Hungary, while he was in a forced labor battalion in Hungary and at the Mauthausen concentration camp from 1944-1945. Pál wrote in the margins as well as on blank pages of a pocket New Testament that he kept with him in the camps. In the diary he writes about the horrible living condition while in the forced labor battalion including the lack of food, unsanitary conditions, punishments, and frigid weather conditions while digging trenches and working in the forest.   18. John W. George photographs

    Consists of 26 photographs taken by and of PFC John W. George, a member of the 13th Field Artillery Observation Battalion of the United States Army; includes photographs of the liberation of the Nordhausen concentration camp. Also includes photographs of military destruction as well as civilian and prisoner casualties encountered by the Army as they crossed Germany in the spring of 1945.

  19. Pencil portrait sketch of a German Jewish refugee

    Portrait sketch of Kurt Singer saved by his daughter, Margot. It was drawn by Clara Asscher-Pinkhof in 1942 in Amsterdam when he lived there as a refugee from Nazi Germany. Singer was a neurologist and the Director of the Berlin Opera. Soon after the Nazis came to power in 1933, he lost his position at the Opera due to a law that ousted Jewish civil servants from public positions. In May, he co-founded the Judische Kulturbund, a Jewish cultural organization. In 1938, his daughter, Margot, left for Switzerland, and in 1940, to Palestine.   20. Jadwiga Dzido Hassa letter

    Contains of one letter from Gusta, a young girl in Haifa, to her friend, Jadwiga Dzido (later Hassa), in Poland, encouraging Jadwiga to come to Palestine. During the war, Jadwiga, a Polish Catholic, became a member of the Polish underground and was imprisoned from 1941-1945 in the Ravensbrück concentration camp. She later testified in the Nuremberg Doctors Trial. Also includes one photograph of Rozia Zylberajch, who is mentioned in the letter.
