  3. Ludwig Fischel collection

    Consists of pre-war and post-war documents and photographs related to the Holocaust experiences of Ludwig Fischel, originally of Rimbeck, Germany. Includes photographs of Ludwig, his siblings Walter and Inge, and his parents, Siegfried and Mathilde, in Rimbeck before the war. Also includes post-liberation photographs of, and identity papers for, Ludwig and Inge, both of whom survived the war (their parents perished during the war and Walter died shortly after liberation.) Ludwig Fischel is a survivor of Riga, Stutthof, Burggraben, and Rieben Pommern camps.

  5. Z. Grinberg speech

    Contains a translated transcript of a speech given by Z. Grinberg at the "Concert in St. Ottilien" on May 27, 1945. Grinberg was the "head doctor of the hospital for political ex-prisoners in Germany at the liberation."

  6. Gardelegen photographs

    Consists of 14 photographs of piles of burnt victims of the Gardelegen atrocities. The photographs were taken by a member of the United States Army.

  8. William B. Duff collection

    Consists of photographs of the liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp as well as photographs of the repatriation of survivors. The photographs were taken by William B. Duff, a member of the medical detachment of the 117th Infantry division. Also includes Mr. Duff's medic's armband, as well as a copy of the July 10, 1945 issue of "Army Talks," which discusses Buchenwald, and clippings regarding Mr. Duff's service and the brutality of the SS.

  9. Rene and Raya Karschon papers

    The papers document the experiences of Rene and Raya Karschon during the Holocaust. Includes documents, correspondence, and photographs relating to Rene's imprisonment in Camp de Gurs in France and his subsequent escape to Switzerland (dated 1941-1942) and letters and postcards written to Raya Levin, Rene Karschon's wife, in Switzerland from her relatives in Vilna, Poland (Vilnius, Lithuania) (dated 1938-1941). Also includes postcards and correspondence written by Rene Karschon while in Le Chambon, France, between 1941-1942.

  10. The United States vs. Vladas Zajanckauskas transcript

    Contains trial transcripts of United States vs. Vladas Zajanckauskas, which took place in Boston, MA, in January 2005. During the trial, in which the Government was represented by the Office of Special Investigations (OSI), Mr. Zajanckauskas gave testimony regarding his wartime activites in the Trawniki Training Camp. Peter Black, senior historian at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, testifed for the government on the Trawniki camp, Mr. Zajanckauskas's service there, and the deployment of Mr. Zajanckauskas to Warsaw to liquidate the Warsaw ghetto.     Continuation of Story 4376. Members of the US Army and Navy celebrate Passover, perhaps in Hawaii (the originating unit is the 7th Hawaii). A woman identified in the NARA storycard as Mrs. Linczer lights candles. An Army and a Navy chaplain stand beside her. Officers and chaplains perform the ceremony. A view of the crowded hall. A slate identifies the cameraman as Sgt. Shivers and reads: "Jewish Passover APO 953 7th CCU 4-7-44." More shots of the ceremony. The participants seem very aware of the camera. Close-up shots of wine being poured, lit candles. Overhead shots of sailor and soldiers...

  12. "Schimbarea Locului de Deportare, din Ghetoul Kanatkauti, Deportat intr-un lagar de Munca German-Varvarovka"

    Consists of one memoir, 22 pages, entitled "Schimbarea Locului de Deportare, din Ghetoul Kanatkauti, Deportat intr-un lagar de Munca German-Varvarovka" by Ron Michael. The memoir describes Mr. Michael's Holocaust experiences in Transnistria, in the Knatkauti and Varvarovka ghettos.

  13. Arnold Kronfeld papers

    The papers consist of correspondence, visa applications, affidavits and other materials that belonged to Herbert E. Kronfeld [donor's father] and that document his efforts to assist his maternal aunt, Bertha Dyckhoff, and her daughter, Hildegard Dyckoff, in immigrating from Berlin, Germany, to the United States. Included in the collection is correspondence from Judges Mitchell May and Algeron I. Nova, Senator Robert F. Wagner, Senator James M. Mead, and United States Secretary of State Cordell Hull.

  15. Schmelc collection

    Consists of documents relating to the Schmelc family: a 1940 letter addressed to Leo Malzner; a 1946 report that Samuel Schmelz Matzner was deported from Drancy to Auschwitz in 1942; and a 1947 letter from "L'Entraide Temporaire," describing two children, Jacques and Rachel Schmelc, and providing the details of their imminent emigration to Canada. Both documents are addressed to Madame Gottlieb, in Montreal, Canada.

  16. Rachela and Isaak Friedman papers

    The papers consist of two police certificates issued in Theresienstadt on July 18, 1945, attesting to the residency of Rachela and Isaak Friedman [donor's parents]; a drivers license issued to Isaak Friedman in Landsberg am Lech, Germany, on September 11, 1946; a certificate issued to Rachela Friedman in Landsberg am Lech on September 11, 1945, identifying her as a political prisoner interned in Flossenbürg concentration camp; and a Jewish newspaper.
