  1. Nehama family photograph collection

    Contains photographs depicting the Nehama family in Athens and their relatives in Salonika. Isaac Nehama joined a partisan unit and survived the Holocaust; Isaac and his father Dario Nehama, survived in hiding in Athens, but Sarah Kolonomos Nehama (donor's mother) and Nehama Norman Nehama (donor's youngest brother) were murdered in Auschwitz in August 1944; Samuel Nehama (donor's brother) survived the Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps.

  2. Refugee girls at the de Monbrison chateau in France

    Refugee girls living at a chateau owned by Count Hubert Conquere de Monbrison in Quincy-sous-Senart, located about 30 km south of Paris. De Monbrison and the Princess Irena Paley (a niece of the last Russian czar who later became Monbrison's wife) used the chateau to house refugee girls from the Russian and Spanish civil wars. In 1939 de Monbrison was approached by his children's Jewish physician, who was a member of the board of the OSE, and asked whether he would take in a group of forty German Jewish refugee children.     Consists of a copyprint image of Jozef Borowczyk, who was a Polish prisoner of war who was imprisoned in Germany from 1939 until he was killed at the end of March 1945. Also includes a photograph of Maria Borowczyk, Jozef's wife, who raised their four children. The family finally learned of Jozef's death in July 2010.

In the memoir, she describes pre-war family life in Michalovce, the beginning of anti-Jewish restrictions, and the fate of many friends and family members in Michalovce. In 1944, Charlotte (known as Shari or Shandele) and her sister received identity papers with Aryan names and moved around frequently to escape the Gestapo.
