    The collection primarily documents the post-war experiences of Basia (née Zajaczkowska) and Morris Rubinstein, who met and were married in the Kielce ghetto in 1942, in the New Palestine DP camp in Salzburg, Austria from 1946-1951. Included are photographs of Basia in the refugee camp in Solberga, Sweden after her liberation from the Ravensbrück concentration camp, and two telegrams regarding her house in Kielce and one from her brother Leon Zajaczkowska informing her that he and her husband Morris were alive and in Italy.     Verpflichtungsschein (obligation note) issued to Paul Swienty, who has been released from German captivity on condition that he will perform the work assigned to him by the Labor Office and will not leave that job without permission from the office or the police under penalty of arrest.     Contains records of the Histadrut (trade union of Jewish workers) of the Hashomer Hatzair in Galicia, includes census data of movement members, name lists of candidates for the "Youth Aliya", a diary of "Shalhevet" group (branch "Vilna") in the years 1924-1935, census data of graduated members of the movement according to the regions: Baranovichi, Białystok, Grodno, Włoclawek; records of the Central leadership in Warsaw in 1935: forms of referendum and circulars, minutes of meetings of the Chief Council, correspondence of the Central leadership in Lviv with its branches (kenim).

  5. Adolph Rosenthal correspondence

    Contains three letters, plus two enclosures, between U.S. Representative Herman P. Kopplemann (1st district, Connecticut) and Adolph Rosenthal, of East Hartford, Connecticut, from January-February 1937, concerning the efforts of Mr. Rosenthal to obtain visas that would enable family members in Germany to immigrate to the United States. Kopplemann advised Rosenthal to provide as much information about his personal finances and property as possible, and the correspondence chiefly concerns the type of information needed in order to make the affidavit as convincing as possible.

  6. Rabbi Eliezer Silver letter

    One handwritten letter, in Hebrew, from Rabbi Eliezer Silver, writing in his capacity as president of Va'ad Hatzalah, to Chief Rabbi Isaac Herzog, in Palestine, in spring 1946. In his letter, he describes news he has received about the destitute condition of many of the newly arrived Jewish refugees in Palestine, and proposes various actions in order to provide humanitarian aid for them, including the sending of funds to support such work. He also discusses negative rumors that had been spread about Va'ad Hatzalah's work there, and asks Herzog to intervene on their behalf.

After the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) formed the so-called Commission d'Espagne (Commission of Spain) on August 26, 1936 which directed and coordinated all of the ICRC's humanitarian activities and operations within both the Republican and Nationalist territories.     Immigration certificates issued by various Argentine consular offices abroad or the Argentine immigration authorities in Buenos Aires for entry into Argentina. The certificates include a portrait photograph of the applicant and the applicant's fingerprints. The records pertaining to Jewish applicants were selectively digitized in Buenos Aires at the Archivo Intermedio branch archive of the National Archives of Argentina. This is an ongoing project.

    Records of the state agency for economical renewal in Sarajevo relating to the Aryanization and disposition of Jewish property. Collection contains property records of the Jews in Sarajevo in the Independent State of Croatia (NDH) in 1941-1945, who were forced to leave and were deported to concentration camps.

  19. S.L. Shneiderman papers

    Contains writings and research notes of S.L. Shneiderman (Samuel Lajb Shneiderman) for a book with the working title "Jews in Communist Poland." The writings and notes regard Jews in the Soviet Union who wanted to serve in the Polish Army of General Władysław Anders (often referred to as Anders' Army) and the reasons why they were denied. Also includes a typed manuscript sent to Shneiderman by Dr. Salomon Leder in Israel in the late 1950s titled "Memoirs of a Young Political Prisoner in the USSR" (in Polish, 278 pages).
