    Standard Rolleiflex 6 x 6 K2 camera, in leather case with accessories acquired by Hilbert Margol while serving with the US Army. Margol took it from a German soldier and then used it throughout the rest of his time while serving overseas.

Paisley, originally of Berlin, Germany. In the memoir, he describes his childhood in Germany, schooling in Belgium, imprisonment in St. Cyprien and Gurs, joining the French Foreign Legion and later the British Pioneer Corps, where he worked as an interpreter.

Also described are his experiences in the immediate postwar years, including reunion with his father and sister, university studies, and emigration from Hungary in 1946, life as a displaced person in Germany for three years, and immigration to the United States in 1949.
