    The papers consist of a service record booklet for the German military and a German passport ("Reisepass") issued to Kurt Stern donor's father, a Reisepass issued to Hilde Metzger [donor's mother], and one school diploma issued to Kurt Stern in Germany in 1927.

  6. The Irvin H. and Sybil Stern collection

    The Irvin H. and Sybil Stern collection consists of photographs of the Mauthausen concentration camp, taken by Irvin Stern on May 10, 1945. The photographs show the camp following liberation and include images of survivors and victims, the mass burial of corpses, as well as buildings, fences, and the crematorium. The letters, in the form of memoirs, relate to the Irvin Stern's experiences at Mauthausen and how he came in contact with Dal Lorvic, a Yugoslavian resistance fighter and a survivor of Mauthausen concentration camp.

    The collection documents the Holocaust-era experiences of Ann Strauss-Salfield (née Schloss), originally of Stuttgart, Germany. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence between Ann, who fled to England in 1939, and her future husband Milton Strauss living in the United States. The correspondence focuses on their daily lives, but there are frequent discussions of her attempts to get a visa and immigrate to the United States.     The collection contains records acquired by members of the field medical units of the Red Army that provide information on the persecution and killing of Jews and others in Eastern Europe by the Nazis. Documents include reports regarding concentration camp conditions; treatment of Russian prisoners; and reports and eyewitness accounts of Nazi atrocities in Belarus, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, and Ukraine.

    Consists of a photocopy of an identity certificate and transit visa issued to Jakob Frydman (Jack Friedman) by Chiune Sugihara in Kaunas, Lithuania, in August 1940, a copy of a photograph of the Mr. Friedman holding his visa, photocopies of two postcards sent from occupied Poland in 1941, and photocopies of newspaper clippings and programs honoring Sugihara between 1986-1995.
