  1. Selected records from the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (AJJDC) Archives, Jerusalem

    Contains records of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (AJJDC) offices in Geneva, Stockholm and Istanbul and odd files of the offices in Lisbon, Brussels and Barcelona. Most of the records consist of correspondence of various JDC offices with other international Jewish and non-Jewish organizations, and with local Jewish communities and organizations, concerning post-war rehabilitation of Holocaust survivors, emigration from Europe, restitution and heirless property. Also includes a large number of name lists of Holocaust survivors and emigrants.

  2. Leon Weliczker Wells notebooks

    The Leon Weliczker Wells notebooks consists of fourteen volumes and two pages written by Wells during his second period of imprisonment in the Janowska concentration camp and while in hiding in the basement of the Kalwinski family following his escape. Wells describes the work of Sonderkommando 1005 in the Janowska camp, his escape, and his hiding place on the Kalwinski family’s farm. These notebooks were widely published as "The Janowska Road" and "The Death Brigade."

  3. Selected records from the departmental archives of the Meuse, France

    This collection contains information pertaining to the arrest and deportation of Jews in the Meuse prefecture, as well as material related to the expropriation and sale of Jewish property. It also contains information on Freemasons, political dissidents, and others. Documents include police records, card files, and lists made in the prefect's office during the German occupation of France; Gendarmerie reports from the prefecture and cabinet; and a list of political deportees from the subprefecture of Verdun.

    Contains Sicherheitspolizei (SIPO) correspondence from 1943 concerning the arrest of Belgian Jews.

  6. Photograph of two men in the Łódź ghetto

    The photograph depicts two mailmen wearing suits standing near the entrance of a building on a sidewalk in the Litzmannstadt ghetto (Łódź, Poland). Both men are wearing armands and Star of David badges. The man on the right is Yeshayahu Sewek Krotoszynski (b. 1923). He survived the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp and escaped from a death march in January 1945.

  7. Newman family photographs

    Contains five post-war photographs from the collection of Edie Newman. Included are photographs of Mrs. Newman with friends at the Pocking displaced persons camp, a photograph of Irwin Newman, and a photograph of Mrs. Newman on the General Eltinge ship on the way to the United States in 1949.

  8. Edmund Friedel photograph collection

    The collection consists of 23 post-liberation photographs taken by Edmund Friedel [donor's brother] who was a member of the United States Army Medical Corps during World War II.

    The papers consist of a letter and photograph relating to Erich Arnold and his desire to emigrate from Germany immediately following World War II.

  13. Manuel Berman collection

    Consists of one Hitler Youth training filmstrip (in a case); three small Nazi propaganda booklets entitled "1934 Der Führer Macht Geschichte," "1935 Der Führer Macht Geschichte" and "Des Führers Kampf im Osten 1." Also includes photographs (with negatives), taken after the liberation of Dachau, of various buildings and structures, including the crematorium. Manuel Berman [donor] took the photographs while on a visit offered to United States Army soldiers in the area of Dachau.

  15. Stamm family papers

    The Stamm family papers consist of correspondence and lists documenting Anna and Gustav Stamm, their immigration to the United States in 1939, and Silbermann and Stamm family members and friends they left behind in Berlin and Frankfurt am Main. The correspondence describes loneliness; employment and health issues; hopes and plans for immigration to America, Brazil, Australia, and Shanghai; requests for financial help; gratitude for packages; and the birth of a baby boy.
