    The collection contains files documenting Endre’s activities during the year 1944, during the period when he was appointed state secretary in the Ministry of the Interior, in the government of Andor Jaross, as well as the period covering his removal from that post in September 1944, and his reinstatement to the government in October 1944, as part of the ultra-fascist regime of Ferenc Szalasi and his Arrow Cross party.     Photographic print and documents concerning the Saias family's experiences before, during, and after the Holocaust. Includes an image of Edith Schneidman-Saias [donor] as a baby in circa 1939 in her brith place Paris, France, where she was hidden. Documents include information about donor’s parents, Isaac and Louna and her ten-year old brother Salomon, all born in Greece, immigrated to Paris before the War and in September and November, 1942 where they are presumed to have perished.

    Titles: "Frontbericht 1941 von Gottfried Kessel Im Banat" [Report from the front 1941 by Gottfried Kessel: In Banat (the name of a geographical region which includes Pancevo)] Shots of Kessel with his Kodak camera in Neuruppin, Germany after the French campaign. Kessel's narration says he studied photography and enlisted in the Propaganda Kompanie. Scenes shot by Kessel out the window of a JU 52 plane as he heads to the front.

    Colonel Stockhausen reviews troops while a military band plays in a town square in Pancevo. Local civilians watch the parade and a Roma/Sinti band plays. Smiling German soldiers eat and drink at an outdoor café; German officers ride horses; soldiers and officers take a boat ride and drink beer on the Danube.

  5. Joseph Fagen photographs

    Consists of five photographs taken at Dachau by Joseph (Jerry) Fagen in May, June, and July 1945. Includes photographs of Fagen, a member of the United States Army and of one of the units which reached Dachau on April 30, 1945, in and around the camp, as well as a photograph of two survivors he befriended. Also includes a list of his unit's movements from November 28, 1942-October 5, 1945. Fagen was stationed at Dachau from May-July 1945.

  7. Markevitch family photographs

    Consists of 31 photographs of the Markevitch family of Bialystok, Poland. With the exception of the donor's mother, Rose Markevitch Hatkin, who had emigrated to the United States in 1919, and one uncle, Mr. Kochakovich (who emigrated to Uruguay in the 1930s), the entire family perished in the Holocaust.

  10. John Angus Clark letter

    Consists of one letter, five pages, written by John Angus Clark on May 6, 1945, regarding the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp. Clark, a surgeon by profession, was assigned to a medical unit and described his arrival at the camp and the planning for medical care for survivors.

    Consists of three photographs taken in 1939 and 1940 of the Berkovitz family, originally of Berehove, Czechoslovakia, as well as two photographs of Olga Berkovitz in 1946, one with fellow survivors in Reichenback, and one with her husband, David.

  12. Doris Mirman collection

    Photographs, writings, and poetry illustrating the experiences of Doris (Dveira Szapiro) Mirman before, during, and after the Holocaust. Includes pre-war photographs of the donor's families in Krewo, Poland (present day Belarus) as well as post-war images of donor's husband, Elliot (Ilya), whom she met in Israel. The collection includes a poem written immediately following Doris' liberation from a series of Lithuanian and German concentration camps, by the group of girls with whom Doris was in slave labor.

    Consists of documents, clippings, publications, photographs, and correspondence related to the life of Max Goodman (Ghitman), originally of Orchard Park, NY. Max's family, who were originally from Germany, returned to Berlin shortly after Max was born, and Max studied music at the Berlin Conservatory of Music. He became a professional jazz musician, and immigrated to the United States in 1937 after being warned by family that the Nazis were looking for him in Germany.     Consists of copies of articles and photographs related to the wartime experiences of Michail Gebelev, who was in charge of underground operations in the Minsk ghetto. Present-day photographs show the daughter of Michail Gebelev, Svetlana Gebeleva, at ceremonies honoring her father.

  18. Federal Interagency Holocaust Memorial programs

    Consists of DVDs of the Federal Interagency Holocaust memorial programs from 1994-2010, marking the Days of Remembrance. The programs commemorate Holocaust experiences in various countries, including Italy, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Poland, and raise awareness of present-day genocides in Rwanda and Darfur. The programs include music and speeches by survivors and rescuers. Also includes advertising posters, printed programs, four round buttons worn for the commemoration events, and photographs of the ceremonies.

    Consists of a photocopy of a booklet assembled by Rosalie Avery documenting the participation of her mother, Sima Rosen Avery, in the Hashomer Hatzair group in Staszow, Poland in 1928-1929. The booklet includes a photograph of young women, a map of Poland, a list of members, and English translations of recorded descriptions of meetings.

    The collection contains 7793 questionnaires. Information for questionnaires were gathered by the The Central Historical Commission (CHC) of the Central Committee of Liberated Jews in the U.S. Zone, Munich) from a large number of Holocaust survivors. This data concern the estimated number of Jews before the war in their communities, the number of Jewish victims, destroyed and robbed Jewish property, slave labor, concentration camps, and the like.
