  1. Testimony of Nordhausen liberation

    Consists of a copy of a liberation testimony by Otho Kime written in the form of a letter on 24 September 1986. The brief testimony describes Kime's account of the liberation of Ohrdruf concentration camp and the activities of the Fourth US Armored Division in the area of Ohrdruf.

    Contains copies of correspondence between Andrew Engel and his family and friends during the Holocaust, together with English translations, arranged in the format of a scrapbook. Includes information about Engel family genealogy, Righteous Among Nations, the concentration camp at Nyirjes, and forced labor.

  3. Reborn memoirs of a camp survivor

    Consists of a copy of the survivor testimony of Kay Gundel entitled "Reborn: Memoirs of a Camp Survivor." The testimony describes in great detail the persecution of Jews living in Berlin, Germany, just prior to World War II. The greater portion of the testimony is devoted to the graphic description of Gundel's imprisonment at Terezin, Auschwitz, and Merzdorf. The later part of the testimony describes Gundel's return to life in Germany and her eventual emigration to the United States. Also included with the testimony are several letters written to the Berthold family of Wilmersdorf, Germany....

  4. Narrative and diary of Mr. Gabriel Mermall

    Consists of a copy of a survivor testimony written by Gabriel Mermall in diary form. The diary recounts the experiences of Mermall and his son, Tommy, during six months of hiding in a forest near the Carpathian Mountains. The diary also contains information about Christians who aided Mermall and his son, activity of partisans in Hungary, and the advance of the Soviet Army at the end of World War II. Portions of the testimony are written in narrative form and are intermingled with the diary entries.

  5. Articles and other documents relating to Rabbi Aladar Deutsch and the Jewish community of Prague

    Consists of articles relating to Rabbi Aladar Deutsch, the last chief rabbi of Prague, Czechoslovakia, prior to the Holocaust, and the Jewish community of Prague. Other documents in the collection include the birth certificate of Aladar Deutsch and a letter written by Deutsch to his daughter informing her of the lift of the quarantine in the Theresienstadt concentration camp. Each document is accompanied by a summary description written in English by William Dickman.

  6. Records relating to the statute of limitations on Nazi war crimes

    Consists of copies of letters and legal documents relating to the attempts of Judge Jess Nathan to extend the statute of limitations against Nazi war criminals in March 1965. Also included is information concerning the efforts of Christian religious leaders in southern California to have the statute of limitations changed.

  7. Albert H. Abramson collection

    Consists of twelve original photographs of the liberation of various camps including Dachau, Buchenwald, and Mauthausen. Includes photographs of survivors of Mauthausen, of summary execution of SS officers at Dachau, and a photograph of a group of female Hitler Youth/League of German Girls (BDM). Also includes copyprint U.S. Army portrait of Albert H. Abramson originally taken in Paris, 1945.

  8. Francis Robert Arzt photograph collection

    Contains approximately twenty photographs and copy prints of the Dachau concentration camp in the weeks after liberation, including various views of the camp complex, images of recovering prisoners in their barracks, and U.S. Army physicians conducting typhus tests.

  9. Office of the US Chief of Counsel records relating to defendant Arthur Seyss-Inquart

    Contains information about the life of Arthur Seyss-Inquart; the indictment of Seyss-Inquart; and general information about the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg.

    Consists of a letter containing a poem entitled "Message to the six million" written by Viola Sutliff.

  11. Linda and Friedrich Breder testimony

    Consists of a copy of a brief survivor testimony written by Linda Breder (Libusha Reich) during the American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors in April 1983. The testimony describes Breder's deportation to Auschwitz, her participation in the "Kanada" kommando, her witness to the sabotage of the Birkenau crematoria, and her subsequent incarceration in Rechlin, a subcamp of Ravensbrück. Also included is an abstract of the testimony written in English.

  12. The origin and activity of the Jewish Academic Secondary School founded in the year 1862 in Nove Mésto nad Vahom (Slovakia)

    Consists of one copy of "The origin and activity of the Jewish Academic Secondary School founded in the Year 1862 in Nove Mesto Nad Vahom (Slovakia)" (undated) written by Artur Klein. The essay contains information about the establishment of the school, its curriculum, and its first educator, Rabbi Josef Weisse. Also included is an anonymous English-language summary of the essay.

  14. Miniature Parole der Woche poster collection

    The collection consists of a Star of David armband, origins unknown, and twenty-seven miniature Parole der Woche posters produced in Nazi Germany.

  15. Karl Hans Bodenstein collection

    The collection consists of a Star of David badge, an armband, and a manuscript relating to the experiences of Karl Hans Bodenstein, who was imprisoned in Theresienstadt during the Holocaust, as well as his immediate and extended family, and their experiences before, during and after the Holocaust.

  16. Joseph Brandt collection

    The collection consists of ten coins issued in the Łódź Ghetto in Poland during the Holocaust.

  17. Rudolf Kovacs collection

    Two adhesive labels used with medicines prescribed exclusively for Jews. The labels were given to the donor by his brother Leo Kovacs.

  18. Janine Brittin collection

    Contains a photograph (unidentified, but likely Jacques Goldstein), and a letter to "Madame Veuve Goldstein" (likely Sonia Goldstein) from the "Fonds d'Entr'Aide," Brussels, November 1945, discussing a ceremony in memory of those lost and presumed dead in German captivity. The collection also includes a Hommage de Reconnaissance Medal awarded posthumously to Jacques Goldstein.

  19. Ita Spiller collection

    The collection consists of a photograph of a woman carrying another woman, as well as a piece of Łódź ghetto scrip, (10 mark coin), and a Nazi pin.

  20. Sandy Elster collection

    Color photograph of President Ronald Reagan (seated) surrounded by standing group at the signing into law of the Genocide Convention; Chicago, Illinois; October 4, 1988. The donor, Mr. Elster, was present at the conference, and stands in the photograph behind Ronald Reagan to his right. The collection also includes the pen used by President Reagan at the signing ceremony.
