    Photographic album which chronicles the march of a German infantry regiment into Austria during the Anschluss in March 1938. Several pages contain inscriptions describing the actions of the 62 Infantry Regiment, 3rd Battalion, and 20th Infantry Regiment.

  8. Julius and Leopold Stein correspondence

    The Julius and Leopold Stein correspondence contains photocopies of letters between Julius Stein and his brother, Leopold, among others. The correspondence relate primarily to the liquidation of Julius’ chemical plant in Meiningen, Germany, and Julius’ attempts to prevent such from happening. This continued while Julius was arrested and imprisoned in Buchenwald. The last letters are death notifications sent to Leopold concerning his brother’s death at Dachau.

  9. Arthur Riegel papers

    Photocopied memorial book and news clippings about events to commemorate Elsa Rauch, a school teacher from Lueneburg, who was deported to Łódź and eventually gassed at Chelmno in 1942. Her former students gathered together in 1993 to dedicate a memorial plaque to her, with Arthur Riegel apparently leading this action. Included is a photocopied booklet (37 pages) with a biography of Rauch, copied documents, and typescript copies of correspondence.

    Contains instructions, name lists, questionnaires, and correspondence concerning uniform allowances for members of the 25th Regiment of the SS, Ordnungspolizei in Lublin, Poland; questionnaires completed by police functionaries in the 25th Regiment in Lublin; correspondence concerning furloughs for SS personnel of the 25th Regiment; instructions of the commander of the Ordnungspolizei in Lublin concerning the showing of a propaganda film concerning bombs; and correspondence from the Generalgouvernement in Lublin concerning real estate.

The film starts with images of the Statue of Liberty as narration tells that it was erected on a field of gallows. President Franklin D. Roosevelt is accused of preaching the 'phrases and slogans' of freedom, democracy, and religion while practicing oppression. Police squads and army troops are shown fighting with teargas, clubs, and pistols against strike riots in this 'freest democracy of the world'.     Testimony, 2 pages, typescript, written in 1944 by a "Mr. Donner" describing his experiences at Jasenovac. Also enclosed is letter to USHMM from Berman, who met Donner and his family when he was in the U.S. Army in Taranto, Italy, and the Donners were refugees there. Includes photos of Donner family taken in Taranto by Berman, 1945.

  15. Soap issued to a concentration camp prisoner in Auschwitz-Birkenau

    Soap issued to Esther Moses, October-November 1944, Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. Esther Zelmanovits Moses was interred in Auschwitz-Birkenau. She was given this bar of soap when she was sent to work in Hamburg on November 26, 1944. She carried it with her for the remainder of the war. Her husband, Herbert Moses hid the bar of soap in his father-in-law's, Sam Zelman, store in Kansas.
