Correspondence: letters written by donor’s father Matys Morgenstern, son of Jehiel and Taube Berger Morgenstern, born February 15, 1915 in Drohobycz, Poland. Matek joined the Communist party as a teenager and in 1936 he joined the forces of the Republicans in Spain. He was wounded in action on September 8, 1938; interned in camps St. Cyprien, Gurs and Landes and later transferred by medical transport to Leningrad and to Moscow.
