Acquisition

The collection was donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2005 by Regina Gingold, the wife of Julius Gingold.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of cancelled envelopes relating to the experiences of Laura Goldberger in Vienna, Austria, and Vilma Gingold in the United States, and scrip relating to the experiences of Julius Gingold in Sonneberg-West labor camp in Germany during the Holocaust.

Buchenwald coupon valued at 1 Reichsmark received by Julius Gingold when he was imprisoned in Sonneberg-West, a subcamp of Buchenwald concentration camp, from November 17, 1944-May 1945. Scrip was issued in the camp as a means of improving worker productivity. In March 1943, Julius and his fiance, Regina Huppert, were sent from the Jewish ghetto in Krakow, Poland, to Płaszów concentration camp.
