Adler-Rudel, Salomon

Salomon (Shalom) Adler-Rudel was a social worker. He served as director of the Welfare Organisation of Eastern Jews in Berlin (1919-1930) and of the department of productive welfare of the Jewish community in Berlin (1930-1934), and he was the editor of Jüdische Arbeits—und Wanderfürsorge (1926-1929). After the Machtübernahme Adler-Rudel moved to London, where he became administrator of the Central British Fund (1936-1945). During the Second World War he was active in efforts to rescue Jews from Europe. After the war Adler-Rudel moved to Israel, where he directed the department of international relations of the Jewish Agency. In 1958 he became the director of the Leo Baeck Institute for German Jews in Jerusalem.
