The collection was donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 1990 by Magda Lapedus, the sister of Janos Mezei. An accretion has been added to this collection.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of three drawings, postcard correspondence, documents, and a Spanish Schutzpass relating to the experiences of Magda Mezei and her family before and during World War II in Budapest, Hungary, during which her father Henrik and older brother Janos perished and Magda, her mother Berta, and brother Gyorgy survived by obtaining a Spanish schutzpass and refuge in the Spanish safe house, and then in a displced persons camp in Linz, Austria. Some of these materials may be combined into a single collection in the future.
