Consists of correspondence, most of which was sent by Ludwig Sommer in Kassel, Germany, between 1938-1940, to his sister and brother-in-law, Kathi and Berthold Speier, who were then living in New York, NY. Ludwig Sommer was able to emigrate from Germany to Rhodesia. Also includes an article from a German newspaper, circa 1939, regarding Jewish emigration, and correspondence from the Justice Department and from HIAS in November 1944 informing Kathi Speier that her mother, Johanna Sommer, can be issued an American visa.
