Star of David badge worn by Adolf Atlas, a wealthy Jewish man in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia (Slovakia). He applied to be exempt from wearing a Judenstern, but on May 30, 1942, his request was denied. Badges often had to be supplied by the users and many were lined to make them more durable. After Germany annexed the Sudetenland in March 1938, Slovakia was ruled by a fascist, antisemitic regime. In September 1939, Adolf's mansion was confiscated and put under the control of an administrator while the government decided whether to sell it or give it to a non-Jew.
