Documentation of the Ministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda (Reichsministerium für Volksaufklärung und Propaganda), Germany, 1934-1944 The ministry was established by law, on 13 March 1933, and received its authority by virtue of an order published, 30 June 1933; its areas of responsibility were defined as Geistigen Einwirkung auf die Nation, der Werbung fuer Staat, Kultur und Wirtschaft, der Unterrichtung der Oeffentlichkeit (emotional impact on the nation, the advertising for State, Culture and Economy, information to the public: The materials that reached Yad Vashem include correspondence with composers of plays, librettos for operas, dancers including proof of their Aryan descent, specific theatres in Berlin and various locations throughout the Reich, including financial matters, complaints regarding content, informing on artists; the Culture and Theatre Bureau (Kultur und Theaterkammer); scrutiny and review of the plays (many dozens of plays, 1934-44).
