Testimony of Jakov Altaras, born in Split, Yugoslavia, 1918, regarding the experiences of the Jews in Yugoslavia and in Rab camp Outbreak of the war; escape and smuggling of Jews to Italy; decision by the authorities of the deportation of Jews to Germany and Poland; change in the decision and deportation to Italy instead; deportation of Jews in the Italian occupied areas to Rab camp, July 1943; surrender of Italy; liberation of the majority of the Jews in the camp by Yugoslavian partisans; deportation of the remaining Jews in the camp to Auschwitz by the Germans.
