Announcements to the population issued by Rumkowski in the Lodz Ghetto: Announcement Number 410, dated 16 February 1944: Jews must acknowledge every German in uniform or in civilian clothing Policemen and firefighters must salute, others must remove their head coverings, remove their hands from their pockets, remove cigarettes from their mouths and stand at attention; women must bow their heads; non-compliance will result in severe punishment.
