History
Archive was established as the regional Communist Party Archive in 1935. It had collected all documents from the party and Komsomol institutions from the Kursk region. During the Second World War documents of the Archive were evacuated to the city of Uralsk in Kazakhstan. They have returned to Kursk in 1944. Archive was reorganised into State Archive of Social and Political History of Kursk Oblast in 1992.

Archival and Other Holdings
For 01.01.2014 archive had 2217 record groups and more than 640 000 archival folders. Main sources of the archive are documents created in 1917 and after, referring to the creation and activity of the Communist party, Komsomol, state administration and professional organisations of the region. In addition archive has some documents referring to the history of the Bolshevik Party in the period 1906-1917. For the Holocaust researchers documents of the Kursk Oblast, city and regional Communist Party Committees may be interesting, and among them, those referring to the partisan movement.
