Historia

Das Dokumentationsarchiv des Österreichisches Widerstandes was officially founded on 25 June 1963. Since 1963 the board of DÖW includes representatives of of three victim-associations (ÖVP-Kameradschaft der politisch Verfolgten, Bund Sozialdemokratischer Freiheitskämpfer und Opfer des Faschismus, KZ-Verband) as well as the Jewish, Catholic, and research communities. A milestone in the development of DÖW was the creation of the DÖW Foundation in 1983, which is jointly supported by the Republic of Austria, the city of Vienna, and the DÖW.

The Documentation Centre of Austrian Resistance contains significant archival material on the Nazi period. Their collections include: police and judiciary records of resistance and persecution, 1934 - 1938 and 1938 - 1945, criminal procedures against Nazi perpetrators, 1945 - 1955, in addition to personal records. Special collections include a photo archive, oral histories, right-wing extremism records and microfilm.
