History
Soon after the war was over, Poland’s new Tymczasowy Rząd Jedności Narodowej (Provisional Government of National Unity) created the Najwyższy Trybunał Narodowy to try particularly important war crimes cases. The NTN began its trials of major Nazi war criminals in the summer of 1946. Its first defendant was SS-Obergruppenführer Arthur Greiser, the last case for the NTN was against dr. Joseph Buhler, the Staatssekretär and deputy governor general in the Generalgouvernment.
