    In April 1941, during World War II, the Independent State of Croatia came into being, backed by Fascist Italy (where most Ustasha lived during the 1930s, as they were anti-royalist Yugoslavia in the inter-war period) and Nazi Germany.     Established in 1944, the institution collected data on crimes, perpetutors and their accomplices, the type of crime, place and manner the crime was conducted. Results of its work the Commission forwarded onto the public prosecutor's office. The punishment was determined by the courts at the end of the judicial process, or after the final judgment.     "The Jew" touched on the daily politics in interwar Yugoslavia (following the goings-on in its capitals) and how the everyday politics touched upon Jews in all areas of Yugoslavia. Secondly, it kept up a continuous 'intergationist' (assimilationist) vs Zionist debate, clearly standing on the side of the latter; thirdly it followed anti-Semitic incidents in the country, as well as news from the Jewish worlds outside of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.
