Abstract

Videotape testimony of David M., who was born in Wolbrom, Poland in 1925, one of seven children. He recalls attending cheder; German invasion in 1939; forced labor in Płaszów and Wieliczka; his family fleeing to Będzin during a round-up in 1942; returning to Wolbrom, then going back to Będzin; living with cousins; transport with four brothers and his sister to Sosnowiec, then Brande; his cousin helping him get a privileged job in the kitchen; transfer to Graeditz; slave labor in a munitions factory; becoming ill; his cousin's death; receiving extra food from German bakers; transfer to Gross-Rosen in late 1943; a death march and transport to Dachau; liberation by United States troops; meeting his wife in a refugee camp; reunion with his brother and sister in Munich; emigration to the United States in December 1950; and going into business with his brother. He notes his younger brothers and parents were killed in Auschwitz; another brother's death immediately prior to liberation; trying to forget his wartime experiences; and recording this testimony for his son and grandchildren.
