Julius H. Holocaust testimony

Videotape testimony of Julius H., who was born in Mosbach, Germany in 1905. He recalls the deaths of two younger siblings; his father's service in World War I and resulting death in 1919; attending school in Mosbach and Heidelberg; his mother's death in 1926; his older sister continuing the family business; leaving his studies that year; completing his Ph.D. in art history in 1930 after studies in Berlin, Vienna, and Freiberg; a research assistantship in Berlin; a two-year internship at the Berlin state museum; dismissal in 1933 due to antisemitism; learning art restoration; visiting the United States in 1933; his sister and her family emigrating to Palestine; emigrating to the United States; marriage in 1936; futile efforts to assist relatives to emigrate; passing through Germany while visiting Europe and Palestine in 1936 or 1937 (his German passport was not stamped with a "J"); his subsequent career as a professor; many publications; and his children's and grandchildren's lives. Mr. H. discusses initiating a monument to the Jews of Mosbach on the site of the synagogue and Germans who were helpful to him. He shows photographs and documents.
