Ester B. Holocaust testimony

Videotape testimony of Ester B., who was born in Tulʹchyn, Ukraine in 1929. She remembers moving to a Jewish agricultural colony when her father was falsely accused of factory ownership; returning two years later to avoid starvation; moving to another village; returning to Tulʹchyn in 1937; German invasion in 1941; fleeing to a village; capture by German troops; returning to Tulʹchyn; ghettoization; transfer with her family and relatives to Peciora; she and her sister contracting typhus; surviving a mass killing; smuggling food; her parents and relatives dying of starvation; a severe beating for leaving camp; escaping with her sisters and nephew; help from local peasants; traveling to Sharhorod and Kopaygorod; their arrest; imprisonment in Luchinets; release; returning to Peciora; escaping with a woman who paid them for their assistance; staying at a synagogue in Dzhurin, then in an orphanage (her sisters remained in the synagogue); liberation; and returning to Tulʹchyn. Mrs. B. discusses her sisters' and nephew's lives; the importance of wanting to relate their experiences to their survival; the unbearable conditions in Peciora; and commemorating those murdered there.
