David L. Holocaust testimony
Abstract
Videotape testimony of David L., who was born in Futoma, Poland in 1915. He recalls eighteen months in the Polish military prior to 1939; German invasion; ghettoization with his brothers and parents in Rzeszów; separation from his parents and one brother (he never saw them again); liquidation of the ghetto; transport with his brother to Wieliczka, then Mielec; slave labor in an airplane factory; transfer to Flossenbürg, then Altenhammer; return to Flossenbürg a year later; liberation by United States troops; staying in Hochfeld displaced persons camp; some assistance from UNRRA; living in Germany until emigrating with his brother to the United States in 1949; marriage; and his daughter's birth. Mr. L. discusses a severe beating in camp; becoming hardened in order to survive the ghetto and camps; nightmares for many years after the war; and sharing his experiences with his daughter.
