Juliette H. Holocaust testimony

Videotape testimony of Juliette H., who was born in Oran, Algeria in 1925, one of eight children. She describes the vibrant Jewish community; cordial relations with the Arabs; her family's Jewish holiday celebrations; antisemitism during lycee? entrance exams; receiving a scholarship; antisemitic policies after formation of the Vichy government; food shortages; expulsion of Jewish students from schools; non-Jewish teachers offering them private lessons; her father's loss of his government job; liberation by United States troops in December 1942; hosting Allied troops; her younger brother's death due to shortages of medicine; working in a French hospital, then for the United States Army; transfer with her sister to work in Deauville and Le Havre; their return to Algeria; their emigration to the United States in 1953; antisemitic attitudes of fellow workers in a bank; and her appreciation of open religious practices and religious freedom in the United States.
