Abstract

Videotape testimony of Nechama F., who was born in Lipkany, Romania in 1930. She recalls attending public school with her sister; her grandfather providing their Jewish education; antisemitic harassment by Romanian children; Soviet occupation in 1940; German-Romanian invasion; a death march during which her grandfather was killed and she was shot in the hand; walking to several locations including Edinet?, toward the Dniester River; many deaths and killings en route; three weeks in Mohyliv-Podil?s?kyi?; transfer to Kalynivka; her mother dying while sleeping next to her; separation from her siblings (she never saw them again); another group bringing her to the Bershad? ghetto; a German woman outside the ghetto assisting her; transfer with other children to Balta, then back to Bershad?; liberation by Soviet troops in 1944; traveling to Chernivt?s?i; joining an aunt in Edinet?; marriage; teaching her children about Judaism; antisemitism preventing her son from attending university; and emigration with her family to Israel in 1979, then to the United States in 1987.
