Videotape testimony of Pinchas H., who was born in Kisva?rda, Hungary in 1924. He recalls living in Va?c and Kisva?rda; working in Budapest; German occupation in 1944; returning to Kisva?rda; ghettoization; deportation to Auschwitz/Birkenau; assignment with his father and brother to the Zigeunerlager (Gypsy Lager); transfer with his brother to Buchenwald, then to Tro?glitz; slave labor; Allied bombings; his brother's hospitalization; their transfer to Berga, then Buchenwald; his transfer to Ohrdruf; public hangings; hospitalization; transfer to Crawinkel, then back to Ohrdruf; transfer to Buchenwald; learning of his brother's evacuation (he never saw him again); deciding to commit suicide; assistance from people from Kisva?rda which saved his life; liberation by United States troops; hospitalization; traveling to Budapest, then Kisva?rda; support from the Joint; illegally traveling to Greece; British incarceration on Cyprus for illegally trying to enter Palestine; legally entering in December 1946; marriage; serving in the Israel-Arab and Sinai campaigns; and emigration with his family to the United States. Mr. H. discusses camp life, including religious observances and the impact of starvation; not expecting his children to understand his experiences; continuing painful memories; and believing it would take days and/or volumes to convey his experiences.
