Abstract

Videotape testimony of Isaac E., who was born in Zwolen?, Poland in approximately 1923, one of three brothers. He recounts his family's orthodoxy; attending cheder; fleeing to the woods during German bombing; returning to find their home and business destroyed; staying with relatives; his older brother's deportation; living with relatives in Oz?aro?w; his parents and younger brother moving to Lublin; returning with his family to Zwolen? in 1941; brief transfer to Szyd?owiec; being caught in a round-up; escaping; hiding with a Polish friend of his father's; working on a farm with other Jews; deportation to Skarz?ysko-Kamienna in 1942; slave labor in a munitions factory; transfer to Cze?stochowa; a brutal beating; transfer to Gross-Rosen, Nordhausen, then Dora; having surgery by a prisoner-doctor; transfer to Bergen-Belsen; liberation by British troops; transfer to Celle; living in the Bergen-Belsen displaced persons camp; marriage; his daughter's birth; and emigration to the United States in December 1949. Mr. E. notes none of his immediate family survived; sharing his experiences with his family; and receiving reparations.
