Bronia and Nathan L. Holocaust testimony

Videotape testimony of Bronia L. and her son Nathan L. who was born in Danzig in 1936. Mrs. L. speaks of the deterioration of the Jewish situation in 1936; the birth of her son in the same year; the miscarriage she suffered as a result of a beating by Nazis in 1939; and her subsequent hospitalization, during which she was sterilized without her knowledge or consent. She describes leaving Danzig in 1940 and the three-month-long journey by ship to Palestine, where she suffered an emotional breakdown and a typhus epidemic claimed the life of her sister. Mrs. L. also relates their arrival in Palestine, upon which the British captured the ship and sent it to Cyprus; her return to Haifa, where she and her two children narrowly escaped drowning when their ship capsized in the harbor; and their internment in a displaced persons camp while her husband remained in Cyprus. Nathan L. clarifies and provides his own recollections of events detailed by his mother. He also discusses the family's move to Nyasaland (now Malawi) in Africa, where they remained until 1946, when they were sent back to Cyprus by the British; and their emigration to Israel in 1948.
