Aldo Carpi di Resmini was an artist and an Italian inmate at Mauthausen who survived by painting portraits of Nazi officers. See curatorial file, "Artist Tricked Nazis to Escape Death; Painted Madison Man" by Sterling Sorensen.

Archival History

The painting was donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 1993 by Richard C. "Doc" Weaver, the son of Frank Weaver.
