Scope and Content

Cross of Merit RP medal owned by Mordche Lieb (Leon Falik) and Giza Sternchuss (later Giza Falik.). After Nazi Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939, Mordche fled to the Soviet Union. Giza Sternchuss also fled Poland for the Soviet Union where she became a partisan. Giza's sister Malka (later Mildred Stern) had immigrated to the United States before the war and became a member of the US Women's Army Corps.

Cross pattee medal with the initials RP enameled within a circle in the center of the cross. There is a suspension ring on the top of the central arm.
