United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Collection, Gift of Heske Zelermyer
The documents were donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2022 by Heske Levie Zelermyer, daughter of Benno M. Levisson.
Scope and Content
The papers consist of primarily Dutch and English language correspondence, identity papers, and government and family documents relating to the experiences of the Levisson family, particularly Benno M. Levisson, while living in the Netherlands, a portion of the time in hiding, and Curaçao between 1939 and 1945. The materials also include some photographs, family trees, short personal statements, and receipts. There are also some articles and newspaper clippings, from the same period, and later in the century. Many of the letters between family members include small sketches in a style similar to that used by the artist of several sketchbooks also found in the collection.
