Acquisition
Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.
Source of acquisition is the Państwowe Muzeum na Majdanku (Majdanek State Museum), Sygn. VII. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the filmed collection via the United States Holocaust Museum International Archives Project in Dec. 2013.
Scope and Content
Contains hundreds of memoirs, diaries, and other written accounts created by former prisoners of Majdanek and nearby camps. Most of these accounts were collected as the result of five projects organized by the State Museum of Majdanek from 1965 to 1980. The projects sought to document how the camps and prisons in the Lublin region operated, the help rendered to victims, children, and the history of the camp of KL Majdanek. Some diaries have been published, and some are just copies obtained from other archives.
System of Arrangement
Arranged in three series: Series 1. Accounts related to Majdanek, marked with the letter “M", Sygn. I/M; Series 2. Accounts related to the Castle of Lublin, marked with the letter “Z”, Sygn. VII/Z; Series 3. Accounts concerning the history of ghettos, prisons and camps located throughout the entire region of Lublin, marked with the letter “O", Sygn.VII/O.
