Biographical History

Benjamin Gantman, his father, and brother were arrested in Antwerp, Belgium on March 2, 1942 and imprisoned in a series of prisons and finally in the Wuelzburg ILAG XIII until liberation. After liberation, Benjamin tried to make Aliyah on board the Exodus and returned to Israel on the SS Negba in October 1948.

United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Collection, Gift of Benjamin Gantman

Received by members of the Gantman family, and donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2009 by Benjamin Gantman.

Scope and Content

Contains five photographs of Menuha and Ida Gantman (donor's mother and sister) who survived the Holocaust in the Vittel internment camp in France; Jehuda Leib (donor's father); Mendel Maurice (donor's brother); and Benjamin Numa Gantman (donor).
