Acquisition
Source of acquisition is the State Archive of South Kazakhstan Region in Shymkent, United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the digitized collection via the United States Holocaust Museum International Archives Project in June 2019.
Scope and Content
Selected records related to evacuation of the civilian population to Shimkent region in Kazakhstan during WWII. It includes information about resettlement, employment, provision of food supplies and medical assistance to the evacuees by the local Soviet and Communist Party authorities. The collection also includes various lists of evacuees who arrived in Shimkent region in 1941-1942 as well as statistical reports and correspondence files.

Arranged by name of cities in Shimkent region (South Kazakhstan), and in several subject groups: 1. Protocols and minutes of the Bureau of the South Kazakhstan Regional Committee, 2. Reports on the placement and employment of the evacuated population: Polish people; 3. Minutes of meetings on the medical care of the evacuated population; 4.Top secret reports of the South Kazakhstan regional prosecutor's office to the regional committee; 5. Lists of evacuated communists; 6. Memorandums and correspondence; 7. Letters from front-line soldiers; 8. Statements, complaints of evacuated citizens on household issues; 9.
