Biographical History

John E. Meyer was born on May 14, 1919 in Elmore, Ohio. He served in the 45th Ordnance Company as a member of the Fifth Army, Seventh Division of the United States Military. As a member of the 45th, he participated in the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp.

Arlene Werts donated her father's photographs to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2013.

Scope and Content

Consists of seven photographs taken of piles of corpses at the Dachau concentration camp, as well as a photograph of the Dachau death train with the rail car door marked "Off Limits." Includes a note written by John E. Meyer, a member of the 45th Ordnance Company, which reads "Pictures taken in Dachau concentration camp."
