Biographical History
The Commissioner was a diplomatic representative of the Government of the Republic of Poland at the Senate of the Free City of Gdańsk (Danzig) in ministerial rank and also was a chief officer of all offices on the area of Gdańsk (Danzig). Germans occupied the offices of General Commissioner of the Republic of Poland on Sept. 1, 1939 and arrested its staff. The Commissioner was in charge of controlling to observe constitutional regulations and rules of the Free City of Gdańsk (Danzig), which guaranteed the rights of people of the Polish origin, as well as the Jews of Polish citizenship, who were permanent or temporary Danzig dwellers

Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.
Source of acquisition is the Archiwum Państwowe w Gdańsku, Poland, Sygn. 259. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the filmed collection via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archival Programs Division in March 2018.
Scope and Content
Selected records of the office of the Komisarz Generalny Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej w Gdańsku (General Commissioner of the Republic of Poland in Gdańsk). Consist of reports, agreements, negotiations of the High Commissioner of the League of Nations in Gdańsk on the situation in the Free City of Gdańsk (Danzig), attacks on Poles and Polish property; records on paramilitary and other German organization, recruitment to NSDAP, Anti-Jewish actions of the National Socialists, attacks on Polish scouts and Polish families in Gdansk; political reports of the General Commissioner RP in Gdańsk on the political situation, employment of Polish citizens, eviction of Poles from Gdańsk, expulsion of a Jew from Germany; correspondence and German newspaper clippings related to the situation in Reich, military matters in Ukraine, emigration of Jews through Gdańsk; Polish press reviews and political reports on population in Pomerania and among Kashubians, and some private correspondence.

Arranged in four series: 1. Reports and agreements of the High Commissioner of the League of Nations in Gdańsk, 1930-1939; 2. Reports of the Ministry of Interior; 3. Reports on deportations of Polish citizens from the territory of the Free City of Danzig; 4. Correspondence, newspaper clippings and weekly press reviews.
