Acquisition

Source of acquisition is the Regional State Archives in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria, records obtained through the cooperative project with the Yad Vashem, Israel. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum received the collection via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archival Programs Division in November 2017. Scope and Content

Correspondence, circular letters, orders and decrees issued by the Ministry of Interior and Health and Bulgarian People's Bank to its regional offices concerning the matters related the Jewish population of the Gorna Dzhumaya (now Blagoevgrad) region. The collection also contains list of Jews relocated from Sofia to Gorna Dzhumya (Blagoevgrad), requests and appeals of the Jewish population addressed to the local authorities; letters, telegrams, lists and other documentation pertaining to the Jewish Labor Units No 9 and No 12 which were stationed in the Gorna Dzhumaya (Blagoevgrad) area.

System of Arrangement

Arranged in five series: 1. Confidential correspondence and instructions of the Bulgarian Ministries, Legations, Consulates and District Police Chiefs and passport Offices; 2. Records of the regional offices of the Bulgarian National Bank; 3. "Informational Leaflet"-a weekly confidential edition of the Ministry of the Interior, on issues concerning the resettlement of persons of Jewish origin, the fight against anti-state elements, the enemy propaganda and external events; 4. Correspondence between the Police Directorate-Sofia, the District Police Headquarters in Plovdiv, the Police Station in Nevrokop (Gotse Delchev) and the Tigar Joint Stock Company-Sofia on Jewish issues; 5. Requests of citizens of Jewish origin from Gorna Dzhumaya (Blagoevgrad) to travel to the country and list of Jews displaced from Sofia in Gorna Dzhumaya.
