Acquisition

Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Source of acquisition is the Archiwum Państwowe w Kielcach, Poland, Sygn. 2129. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the digitized collection via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archival Programs Division in March 2017. This is a cooperative project based on the agreement between USHMM and Yad Vashem, Israel.

Scope and Content

Records relating to Jewish property and its fate after World War II in Chmielnik, mainly in reference to abandoned property. The collection includes official correspondence, descriptions of estates, verdicts of the Court of First Instance, loans and sale of those estates, registration of war damages, birth and death files, and correspondence concerning the matter of searching for individuals who were property owners. Prior to World War II, Jews constituted about 70% of the total population of Chmielnik.

Arranged in four series: 1.Administrative matters of abandoned property, 1947-1950; 2. Administration Department: Control of payment of rent for Jewish real estates, 1948-1950; 3. Files of civil status and religious matters of population in Chmielnik, 1945-1946; 4. Files of population movements, 1945-1946.
